The Oslo Accords of 1993 (HCC) – Advanced Specialized
In the HANMUN III Historical Crisis Committee (HCC), we will focus on historical crises and events that hold significant relevance to the present. Our objective is to start with the widely-watched real-world event of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and explore its historical precedents. Using the 1993 Oslo Accords as an entry point, we will examine the present from a historical perspective.
The delegates will be role-playing as the Israeli secret cabinet during the Oslo Accords negotiations. The delegates will not be 're-enacting' the event like a play, but rather will simulate Israel's decision-making body, observing history from the Israeli point of view. With a modern moral perspective and an understanding of both history and the present, we aim to carefully consider the choices made in the past. We hope to resolve a major, century-old issue with a more effective solution than the historical outcome, all while cautiously making decisions that carry a moral weight and avoiding bringing war back to the Promised Land.
